For a third time in the week, the Lancers got a very strong pitching performance from their starter. Gabe Tindall worked a complete game in this one. Tindall’s final line was 7 innings pitched, 2 runs (0 earned), 4 strikeouts, and 0 walks. Tindall was aided by a really good defensive day by his infielders. Evan Gray (3rd Base), Z Georgian (Shortstop), and Jack Temmer (2nd Base) all mad big plays to get the Lancers out of several innings. Also of note in the game was Ryan Gunter’s great effort behind the plate.

After the Rams tied the game up at 2 in the top of the 6th, Sam McAnulty led off the bottom of the 6th by getting hit by a pitch. Evan Gray then drew a walk. After Temmer’s sac bunt, Tindall stepped to the plate with 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd. He ripped a single down the left field line to drive in the Lancer’s 3rd run. Tindall then returned to the mound to work a 1-2-3 top of the 7th and secure the victory for the Lancers.

3/28/19- Belleville East-7, Madison East (Wisconsin)-1

Although it looked like Mother Nature might tally the win in this one, the rain held off just long enough for the Lancers to collect their 6th win of the season.

Evan Gray got the start on the mound. Evan worked a perfect 4 innings, only facing 12 hitters. He struck out 7 of those “Puregolder” hitters. Gabe Tindall took over from there and worked a solid 3 innings. Tindall allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.

Both Evan and Drew Gray collected two hits a piece at the plate. Others who collected hits were Tindall, Brock Barton, CJ Cagas, Jacob Cregger, Z Georgian, and Kannon Walker.

Although we only played 2 games, we played well in both games and also added some really focused practices in throughout the week.

What’s Next?

3/20/19- Mascoutah-4, Belleville East-1

In a game that had a playoff-like atmosphere surrounding it, the Lancers fell short in this one. Evan Gray got the start and pitched very well. He went 5 2/3 innings, allowed 4 hits and 2 earned runs, and struck out 12 Indian hitters.

The Lancers couldn’t get much going on offense, but Sam McAnulty did collect two hits for himself.

3/23/19- Belleville East- 6, Jerseyville-3

Gabe Tindall got the start in game one of the double header and he pitched very well! Gabe went 5 strong innings, scattered 6 hits, and allowed 2 unearned runs. He struck out 9 Jerseyville hitters in his effort. Sam McAnulty collected the save with 2 quick innings of relief. He did not allow a hit and struck out 2.

The Lancers were down 2-1 in the 5th when Riley Faust collected a 2-out hit. Dillon Donjon then put a good at-bat together to draw a walk. CJ Cagas then pinch-ran for Faust and Z Georgian stepped to the plate. He ripped a double to center field, scoring both base runners and putting the Lancers ahead 3-2. The Lancers would add one more run in the 5th and two more in the 6th. Gage Cruz and Jack Temmer both collected RBIs at the plate.

3/23/19-Jerseyville-3, Belleville East-2

In another well-played ballgame by both teams, the Lancers just fell short in this one. After surrendering 3 runs in the first inning, Brock Barton responded to have a really good outing. He went a total of 4 innings, putting up 3 zeros in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings. Brock struck out 6, walked 4, and allowed 7 hits in his effort. Jack Temmer came in and threw two really good innings. Jack allowed one hit and struck out one, as well. Also of note in this game was Ryan Gunter’s effort behind the plate. He did a very nice job with both pitchers.

There wasn’t much offense for the Lancers in this game. We were only able to total 5 hits in the 7 innings of play.

What’s Next?

The Lancers went 3-2 this week and now stand at 4-3 on the season. A lot of promising things have happened on the field, including 5 really well-pitched games this week. The Lancers will hope to get the offense going as the season continues.

We have a light week this week, only playing 2 games. We will welcome the Granite City Warriors to Lancer Stadium on Monday and then Madison East (Wisconsin) is traveling down for a game on Thursday.

March 15-16

The Lancers started the season with a 1-1 weekend as part of the PBR Kickoff Classic. Please see game recaps below.

March 15- Belleville East 3, Naperville Central 2

Evan Gray got the start on the mound for the Lancers and he did not disappoint in this one! Evan went 6 strong innings, allowing only 1 run, while striking out 14 Naperville Central hitters in the process. Sam McAnulty picked up the win, after working out of a tough jam in the 7th inning.

On offense, Gage Cruz and Gabe Tindall each collected two hits for the Lancers. Then, with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the 7th, Evan stepped into the box with the score tied 2-2. With the count 0-2, Evan was then hit with the third pitch of the at-bat, forcing in the winning run and sending Lancer baseball fans home happy!

March 16- Kaneland 14, Belleville East 3

This one did not go the Lancers’ way. Unfortunately, we made several mistakes on defense, on the bases, and on the mound to earn the loss. One a high note, both Brock Barton and Jack Temmer collected their first career varsity hits! In addition, Drew Gray was 2-2 with a couple RBI at the plate.

What’s Next?

The Lancers will try to rebound from a poor Saturday performance this week as we have 5 games scheduled. On Monday, we will host Dupo, on Tuesday we will travel to Wesclin, on Wednesday we will welcome Mascoutah to Lancer Stadium, and on Saturday we will travel to Jerseyville for a double header. It is shaping up to be an exciting season for the Lancers.

Regional Champions!

The Lancers were crowned the IHSA Class 4A Belleville East Regional champions this week behind 2 fantastic pitching performances! Please enjoy the recaps below!

5/23/18(Regional Semi-Final)- Belleville East-1, Belleville West-0

The first pitching gem of the week belong to senior, Ryan Culley. Culley worked a complete game shutout to earn the win over West. In his effort, he only allowed 2 hits (1 infield hit), walked only 2 hitters, and struck out 8 Maroons.

The only run of the game would come in the bottom of the 5th and would be tallied to the Lancers. Hunter Davis drew a lead-off walk. Ben Cruikshank then bunted him over to 2nd. Then, with two outs and Davis still standing at 2nd, Gage Cruz stepped into the box. He fouled off several tough pitches before lining a triple into the right-center gap to score Davis.

Dean Criddle was there from the BND to cover the game. Here is the link to his story:

David Wilhelm was there from the St. Louis Post Dispatch and here is the link to his story:

5/26/18 (Regional Championship Game)- Belleville East-3, Collinsville-0

The second pitching gem of the week belonged to senior, Ben Cruikshank. Cruikshank, like Culley just a few days before him, went the distance to earn the complete game shutout. Cruikshank allowed only 1 hit, walked 3, and struck out 9 Collinsville hitters.

There was no offense to speak of until the bottom of the 6th. Drew Gray got things going with a 1-out single. After Gray swiped 2nd Base, Hunter Davis drew a walk. With 2 on and 1 out, Z Georgian came through with a huge hit to center field. Using his good jump off second and good speed, Gray scored on a bang-bang play at the plate. Using good base running, Davis took third and Z took second and the throw home. Sam McAnulty then came through with another big hit to left, scoring Davis. Ryan Culley would follow with a sac fly, giving the Lancers a 3-run lead.

Culley and Cruikshank were definitely the story of the regional. Combined they threw all 14 innings, while only allowing 3 hits and striking out 17 hitters!

What’s Next?

The Lancers now play the winner of the Edwardsville Regional, the O’Fallon Panthers, on Wednesday at 4:30 at Belleville West!
